Day 365: Dads and babies

We were invited to our friends' place for a barbeque. Here are the dads and their babies! From left to right, Joe and Jacob, Brian and Meghan, and S and baby A.

Day 364: New neighbors

We have new neighbors upstairs who have just moved in. They had a very large moving truck with lots of helpful friends bringing it all inside.

Day 361: New wardrobe

Our landlord lent us a vintage wardrobe, which he and his friend moved into our apartment. It's a little big, but I love it!

Day 348: Airplane ride

Baby's first airplane ride! We made it successfully and even scored an upgrade to first class, but it was only for one of us plus baby, and neither of us were willing to leave the other back in steerage. So we kindly gave back the upgrade...I'm hoping that karma will come back to us!

We are having a primary election in a couple days, and the mail and telephone calls have been ramping up. It's starting to get annoying, so I'll be quite glad when August 10 is done!

Day 344: Wentworth's

S took me and baby A to Wentworth's for some ice cream. They have the best ice cream of any place around here. Plus, they have a nice backyard seating area where you can relax with your treat.

Today was the day I'd been dreading. Baby received his first set of immunizations (jabs for my UK viewers). He was so brave and only cried when she gave the initial injections, then he quieted right down. I was so proud of him!

Day 331: 50 point bonus

S and I decided it had been way too long since we'd played Scrabble, so we got out the board. We started a game on Saturday but ditched it as we ended up going to the concert instead. So we started again. And guess who played EYESORES for a 50 point bonus as his very first move? Needless to say, I did not win!

Day 330: Impromptu concert

After a day spent out of the heat, inside with the air conditioning, we decided at the last minute to check out a free concert on the green. The New Haven Symphony Orchestra played. It was a nice evening.

A's passport has arrived! I'm so pleased. Considering it could have taken six weeks and we got it in less than two, I'm impressed.

Day 328: More Catholic places

We took an impromptu road trip up north to a seminary that housed a Catholic bookstore. I was hoping to get a baptism gown for Anand's baptism next month, but they didn't have any. Still, it was a nice trip and the seminary was beautiful.

We went to meet with Father Bob at the Yale Catholic center as part of our preparation for A's baptism in August. The center is really beautiful.

Day 326: Meghan and Anand

Meghan's mom and I met a few months back when we were both pregnant and going to prenatal exercise class. Meghan was due on June 4 and Anand was due June 20, but in the end, they were born only two days apart! Here they are at our moms' group.

We motivated and got out to the Yale Center for British Art today. I had wanted to see an exhibit they've got up of British Transport posters. I have a few of them up in our apartment. It was a good exhibit and baby was generally well-behaved, although we did need to take him out so I could feed him at one point. But all in all, a good day.

I was generally able to avoid pregnancy brain. Mommy brain, not so much. This morning, I was going to make some pancakes for S from the leftover batter. I poured what I thought was the batter on the griddle, and it started separating and looked very oily. Generally not nice at all. So we got rid of it. Then much later, we found what was actually the batter in the fridge. What was it that I had tried to fry? Salad dressing.

Although we are not planning on traveling internationally any time soon, we thought it would be good to get A's passport sorted just in case. So my goal this week was to get his photo done and get the application completed and accepted at the post office. Just in the nick of time, we achieved the goal! Added bonus: passport fees are increasing in just 4 days.

One upside of the heat wave: sprouted moong beans. S sprouted these in less than a day and made a salad for us. He also made some yogurt from scratch.

Day 313: Water

The excessive heat here has caused a significant increase in the water demand for our city. As a result, there has been sediment in the water that was stirred up in the pipes. The water authority has assured us that it is safe to drink, and that we should just let the sediment fall to the bottom and drink the clear water on top. Um, yeah, I don't think so.

During our meeting in Hong Kong, we were shown a porcelain plate that we'd be receiving at our homes as a souvenir of our trip. Mine arrived yesterday while I was in Boston. It's really lovely! I'm not sure where to display it...maybe in my office.

Our friend Marina is leaving New Haven on June 1 to return to London, which is where she is from. We were lucky enough to get to meet up with her for coffee before she leaves the Elm City. We will miss her!

An alumni row is a regular event at Amherst Reunion, and of course we attended. S was the stroke, or the lead rower, in his eight. I was very proud of him!

When S was in India in March, his cousin gave him a packet of herbs/spices that are meant to be ground up and mixed with water and then given to baby for different problems, like colic or a cold or whatever. We had no clue about all this so we brought it to our friends' house where we were invited for dinner, so that our friend's mom could take a look at it all. She went over each piece and explained what to do with it and lent us a stone to grind the spices on. Interesting!

Day 267: Another class

We took our last class today (all day!) in preparation for the little one's arrival. One exercise involved the partners having to tightly hold cold ice in their hands for about 90 seconds to mimic what it's like to have a contraction. I think they got off pretty easy, to be honest.
